About this artwork
As junior member of the publicity unit of If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium, one of the great B movies, I got out to photograph the unit photographer and Elsa Martinelli doing their thing off set in Venice. At her peak from the late 1950s into the late 1960s she approached the popularity and status of top rival "Hollywood Italian imports" Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida and Claudia Cardinale. quip that she was a 'kind of Audrey Hepburn with sex appeal'," according to Wikipedia. "Outside her busy film career, Martinelli was a member of the glitterati, married to an Italian count and befriending such international celebrities as Maria Callas, Aristotle Onassis and Jackie Kennedy." The extreme pose might be sexist but the little boys add a whimsical note. Singulart does not have a category to acces for photography nor for the process, gelatin silver, made archival by the photographer in her NYC darkroom in the 1970's. Last print left.
