In this painting, I wanted to make visible the silent dialogue between light and matter. The white jugs represent purity and openness, the black one depth, memory, perhaps also the unspoken. Between them lie the fruits – full of life, fragrance, color – like what is often overlooked in everyday life: the immediate, the sensual. The sliced orange is like a heart to me: open, vulnerable, honest. The branch with the small fruits seems almost defiant… – it grows, even in the shadows. This still life is not an arrangement, but an encounter. It tells of opposites that do not fight but hold each other. Of calm that is not empty, but filled with inner tension. Perhaps the viewer senses the same moment I do: the instant in which everything is completely still – and precisely for that reason, alive.
Dietrich Moravec, originally self-taught, maneuvered his way through old-master painting techniques to photorealistic oil, acrylic, and pastel painting. In his style, finely nuanced "color zones" meet sharp reality, creating precise still lifes that evoke a contemplative atmosphere in silence. His focus on everyday objects and their transient details invites us to reconsider the inconspicuous and pause silently in the flow of time.
