In this work, I wanted to explore the tension between contrast and harmony. The light, round-bellied bottle and the dark, earthy bowl seem to come from different worlds—one calm and reserved, the other heavy and tangible. And yet, a quiet balance emerges between them. The two tangerines connect them: small points of life, warmth, and color that bridge the distance between form and mood.
The title "Odd Couple with Tangerines" reflects this fragile… interaction—how things, and figuratively speaking, people, can be very different and yet fit together. I'm inspired by the quiet dialogue of forms at rest—when seemingly nothing is happening and yet everything is there. The soft light, the neutral background, the precise edges—all of this is a meditation on simplicity and depth. For me, the image represents acceptance: the beauty of being different, side by side.
Dietrich Moravec, originally self-taught, maneuvered his way through old-master painting techniques to photorealistic oil, acrylic, and pastel painting. In his style, finely nuanced "color zones" meet sharp reality, creating precise still lifes that evoke a contemplative atmosphere in silence. His focus on everyday objects and their transient details invites us to reconsider the inconspicuous and pause silently in the flow of time.
