I remember that moment of stillness, when everything was set up: the glass vessel, the vase, the bowl, the lemons. Nothing was missing, nothing was too much. The scene almost came together of its own accord – as if it simply wanted to be there, without any explanation. The three lemons in the bowl seemed like a closed system, at peace within themselves. And yet a fourth lay next to it, relaxed, almost defiant – as if it wanted to escape the order.… The small carving next to it is like an echo: something has happened, but we only see what remains. Perhaps that is precisely what this picture is about: balance that is imperfect. Clarity that cannot be named. For me, it means calm, presence, a certain concentration on the essential. For the viewer, it can be a moment of contemplation, a reminder of what is simple – but not banal. Something that doesn't need to be explained to have an impact.
Dietrich Moravec, originally self-taught, maneuvered his way through old-master painting techniques to photorealistic oil, acrylic, and pastel painting. In his style, finely nuanced "color zones" meet sharp reality, creating precise still lifes that evoke a contemplative atmosphere in silence. His focus on everyday objects and their transient details invites us to reconsider the inconspicuous and pause silently in the flow of time.
