About this artwork
In addition to modeling pastes (including homemade pastes), stones, decorative stones, and sand, I used pigments, inks, and acrylic inks for the color design. During the design process, I thought about the many shoals and dangerous currents in the Baltic Sea, and I recognize them in the painting. The Baltic Sea is always ridiculed as an inland sea. But that is naive. The Baltic Sea can also be dangerous.
Doreen Gehrke is a self-taught artist and geologist whose scientific background significantly influences her artistic work. Structures, strata, natural processes of formation, and the aesthetic language of the earth are reflected in many of her pieces. This combination of geological knowledge and intuitive painting technique forms the basis for her Emotional Landscapes – atmospheric, often abstract landscapes that depict inner states, moods, and memories rather than real places. The pricing of her artwork is primarily based on the technical and time-related effort of the painting process, while the size of the work plays a secondary role. Further information can be found on the artist's website or on her social media profiles at @doreengehrkeart.
