About this artwork
"Ember & Amethyst" is an emotional landscape painting that hovers between embers and stillness, light and shadow. The composition thrives on a fluid transition between warm, earthy rust and copper tones—the embers—and cool violet and amethyst nuances. This color tension creates an atmosphere that feels like a state of suspension between the glow of evening and the approaching twilight. The rich textures lend the work an almost geological depth.… Fine cracks, crystalline structures, and granular surfaces are reminiscent of weathered landscapes, mineral sediments, or the traces of light falling on uneven terrain. The painting deliberately remains abstract, inviting individual interpretation. Created in 2022, this painting stands—detached from its original series—as an independent work that embodies the essence of my "Emotional Landscapes": a poetic space between nature, emotion, and abstract perception.
Doreen Gehrke is a self-taught artist and geologist whose scientific background significantly influences her artistic work. Structures, strata, natural processes of formation, and the aesthetic language of the earth are reflected in many of her pieces. This combination of geological knowledge and intuitive painting technique forms the basis for her Emotional Landscapes – atmospheric, often abstract landscapes that depict inner states, moods, and memories rather than real places.
The pricing of her artwork is primarily based on the technical and time-related effort of the painting process, while the size of the work plays a secondary role. Further information can be found on the artist's website or on her social media profiles at @doreengehrkeart.
