About this artwork
“Manipulation of Evolution” was inspired by the idea that we are no longer just products of evolution—we’ve become active editors of it. From genetic engineering and AI to the way social media reshapes how we think and behave, our evolution is no longer slow, random, and natural; it’s designed, accelerated, and often manipulated.
“Manipulation of Evolution” isn’t meant to give an answer, but to raise questions:
How far is too far when we alter… nature—including our own nature?
At what point does improvement become distortion?
And who gets to decide what the “next stage” of evolution should look like?
The work invites viewers to sit inside this discomfort—to feel both the seductive promise of control and the quiet fear of losing something essential and human in the process.
Dragan Marjančević, a self-taught painter influenced by his father's naive art, works primarily with paint to explore transformation and perception. He melds abstraction, surrealism, expressionism, and symbolism, creating energetic compositions where human, animal, and symbolic forms intertwine. His technique challenges viewers to confront ambiguity and hidden truths, evoking feelings of introspection and wonder at the ever-shifting nature of identity.
