About this artwork
“Time to move!” – that’s what the opening song from the children’s show Chuggington used to say when I watched it with my younger sister. Something about those trains always felt strange to me: faces fixed to their fronts, jaws moving in a stiff loop, bodies stuck on narrow tracks they could never leave. Even as a kid I wondered if they wanted to step off and choose their own direction.
The bright locomotives stood out against the empty green backgrounds,… and that contrast left me uneasy.
In this painting the concrete animals feel similar. They look as if they’re waking up, not fully alive but not entirely still. Their eyes are vacant, yet their bodies seem ready to shift. They sit in that in-between state – between presence and absence, between waiting and moving.
The painting is ready to hang and will be shipped in secure, multi-layered packaging with an insured, tracked delivery and a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity.
Eliza Kołodziej is a Polish painter and textile artist with a rich background in traditional crafts, painting and artistic tapestry, trained at top academies and influenced by nature and industrial landscapes. She masterfully employs oil on canvas and weaving, using expressive, sometimes precise brushwork and optical illusions, blending studio and plein-air techniques to poetically transform everyday scenes into visual stories. Her art conveys deep emotional resonance—inviting viewers to rediscover wonder, tenderness, nostalgia and a gentle examination of loneliness and longing in the overlooked corners of the world.
