About this artwork
This painting is the first work in my Northern Lights series, and it arrived with a force of its own. I was in the middle of an entirely different piece when this image pressed forward in my mind with unusual clarity, insisting on being made. Instead of setting up a new surface, I painted directly over the work I had been creating, letting this new idea take its place. It felt immediate and necessary, somewhat irrational and too demanding, yet the…
