About this artwork
The idea for this image came to me during a visit to a market in Dieppe, France. I felt magically drawn to and inspired by the beauty of the scallop shell. The following image appeared before my eyes: the scallop as the foundation for a Buddha, sitting upon the shell in strength and serenity, aware of the energy from the sea. Rows of flowers, plant ornaments, blossoms, and pearls emerged, rising up to the heart. In the center of the heart, peace… and love arose. The head was small, and a bird became visible there—the bird as a symbol of freedom.
While I was creating the picture, I wrote the following poem to go with it.
Buddha Heart
Awaken my heart
A sun of gold
Earth roots
Full of golden flowers
High above the heart
Open to the sky
Awakens...Laughs...peaceful silence
Awaken my heart
Stay true to your core and be aware of your diversity. A Buddha's heart
