About this artwork
The painting "Lucid" moves within its color scheme predominantly in white and, to a lesser extent, in yellow tones. This, along with the lightness of the lines, creates a certain translucency. Harsher dark blue, violet, and black shadows create a strong contrast, emphasizing the three-dimensionality of the image. At the center is a tunnel-like curve that bizarrely expands outward in a circular shape. An element partially covers the entrance of the… funnel, although it is unclear whether it is being drawn into the depths or has just been excreted from it. Naturally, this composition also recalls macrocosmotic or microcosmotic processes, yet remains in absolute lightness and transparency, appropriate to the nature of the human mind. Through its power on the one hand and delicacy on the other, the painting directly catches the viewer's eye. The beauty of the composition is connected to the question of the background.
« For some, the motifs of the highly expressive pictures by the Bonn artist Ernst-Martin Heel resemble a natural event. -Kölner Rundschau »
Ernst-Martin Heel is an artist living in Germany. Over the past decades, he has presented his work to an art-loving public in numerous solo exhibitions and his pieces are included in private collections in the USA, Spain, and Switzerland. His art has been reviewed in various publications and national newspapers such as the WAZ (Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung). His paintings explore fundamental forces of existence in their upheavals, while maintaining an abstract and expressive formal language. However, the inherent chaos finds a rigorous harmony in his art. The principle of "floating" as a fundamental element of life is consistently reflected in his predominantly dynamic paintings.
