About this artwork
In Korean culture, the idea of paradise is often expressed through the ancient literary vision of Mureungdowon—an idyllic land where peach blossoms bloom endlessly, symbolizing a perfect and heavenly place. This painting imagines the world after the blossoms have fallen, when the trees bear abundant peaches, glowing with life and promise.
Through the peach forest and along a flowing river, the girl and her companion Benji drift together in a small… boat, journeying toward this timeless paradise. The scene becomes a metaphor for the search for the inner self: happiness is not something found outside, but a truth that quietly waits within, ready to be realized.
« "The world we live in is not always beautiful. But we may all possess the dream of being beautiful, still and peaceful. My works reflect what I want to see and feel." »
