About this artwork
In my earlier works, the girl often journeyed alone to discover that paradise lies within—a metaphor for the search for true self and inner happiness. In this piece, however, the story shifts. Benji, personified as a guardian-like dog, carries a lantern and becomes the first to find the inner paradise, later guiding the girl to it.
The yuza, a golden fruit familiar in Korea, has a rough surface yet holds energy and healing. Traditionally steeped… in honey as a tea for colds, it symbolizes recovery and vitality. For me, it also represents growth: though imperfect on the outside, it speaks of becoming whole and mature. The yuza forest thus reflects not only light and healing but also the inner journey toward self-realization.

Eury (Yeahgean) Kim is an award-winning painter who grew up in Australia and now resides in South Korea. She has displayed her works in Belgium, China, Singapore and South Korea. Kim’s dreamlike imagery evokes a hidden and poetic atmosphere. Using techniques from both Eastern and Western artistic traditions, she employs acrylics, oils, mother of pearls on canvas, wood, and various objects in her pieces.
