About this artwork
In this painting, the wise companion Benji leads the Yuzu Girl into the luminous forest—a vision of the inner paradise. Though the yuzu fruit bears a rough, uneven surface, it is filled with vitality and healing energy. In Korea, yuzu tea preserved in honey is a traditional remedy for colds, embodying themes of restoration and renewal.
The scene is enriched with symbolic creatures: bluebirds, white deer, and rabbits—each carrying auspicious meanings… in Korean culture. Together, they create a dreamlike world where innocence and myth converge. At the heart of this journey, Benji, once a faithful dog, is personified as both a sage and a tender guide—sometimes steadfast, sometimes lovingly protective—helping the girl rediscover the paradise that already exists within her.
« "The world we live in is not always beautiful. But we may all possess the dream of being beautiful, still and peaceful. My works reflect what I want to see and feel." »
