About this artwork
A well-behaved worker, after a night of drinking with his boss, sits disoriented on the street, slumped against a lamp. His money lies scattered, already losing its meaning as intoxication takes hold.
The image points to a harder truth: hierarchy offers structure but rarely freedom. Loyalty becomes a quiet form of dependence, where value—both personal and material—can easily dissolve.
In this context, drunkenness appears as a form of release—not… an ideal or conscious liberation, but a socially accepted one. It becomes a fragile, unsteady step toward another state of awareness, a brief movement away from a life structured around consumption and productivity.
Eva Schumy is a painter with a background from the University of Fine Arts in Budapest, enriched by international experiences across Europe and Asia. She fluidly blends abstraction and photorealism, harnessing water-based colors, expressive gestures, and precise distortions to summon the poetic absurdity and tensions of contemporary life. Her techniques embrace satire and surrealism, inviting viewers to see beyond logic and materiality. Schumy’s art radiates a vivid emotional honesty, persistently seeking meaning, vulnerability, and the unseen depths of human experience beneath the surface of the everyday.
