This painting is based on a photograph I made of a smashed pumpkin on black autumn asphalt. Its bright orange body had burst open, and in the painting it becomes unstable and exposed, surrounded by a dramatic black space. The form resembles a dark throat opening, filled with seeds, suspended between violence and transformation.
I associate this pumpkin with a life not chosen wisely, full of challenges and lessons. The seeds represent… the traces of our deeds—karma seeds—carried forward whether we intend it or not. The work questions whether one life is better than another, whether we truly evolve or simply survive within repeating cycles, and whether meaning exists beyond the paths we find ourselves in.
