"To do justice to all men is an art that no one can master," etc. The latter is my absolute favorite saying, and the scarf embroidered with it is part of my collection of vintage sayings. Messages and quotes of this kind were an integral part of my childhood. Grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and aunts provided us with appropriate wisdom at every… opportunity. From there, I began to create my own sayings. Paired with a penchant for surreal still lifes, this series of transmedia photographs was born. The phrases have adapted to the times and our lives. Now they are called "Eat more Insects" or "Don't trust the Patriarchy." Nevertheless, objects belonging to my ancestors can always be found in the pictures. In this way, I honor their memory, and they remain a part of my life, in a very modern way.
Eva Silberknoll, a graduate of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, works with photography, textile techniques and fragrances. By combining these media elements, she creates mixed media that connect seemingly incompatible fields. Her works tell stories of individual journeys and the challenges of deviating from the norm, viewing fashion as a means of self-discovery. With a strong sense of personal freedom, Silberknoll's works exude an inspiring message: be yourself.
