About this artwork
This work extols the sacrifice of a woman, hanging on a cross in place of Christ. The entire representation is shocking and provocative; the grim, anguished vision of a group of women in blood-red garments reminds us of humanity's common destiny toward that gallows, while everything remains submerged, framed by a terrifying sky.
Ezio Ranaldi's work is yet another attempt to completely break with the hieratic tradition of the supernatural: treating… the divine separately from the profane. What other pretext could the artist have to capture the viewer's attention than a shocking transgression from the usual way of conceiving the sacred in human history? Ezio Ranaldi, is an artist born in Canosa di Puglia, in the Province of Bari, on May 23, 1948, where he lives and works. He has held many solo and group exhibitions in various cities, including Tarquinia, at the Etruscopolis Museum, in Ferrara at the Estense Castle, in Cannes in France, in Norwich in Great Britain, in Paris, in Bari, and in many other Italian locations. He has participated in various International Biennials including Rome, Florence, Ferrara, Lecce, Verona. Present in various Modern and Contemporary Art Fairs, including Padova Arte, ExpoArte in Bari, Artisti in Mostra in Parma, Artexpo in New York, Arte Salerno. Numerous prizes and awards. His works appear in public and private collections, as well as being published several times in catalogs and contemporary art magazines. Valuable critics have expressed themselves regarding his work.
