About this artwork
In this work, I took as my reference Hugues Merle's Mary Magdalene in the Cave, a painting created around 1868. As with this entire series, I set myself the task of establishing a dialogue between the old masters and mass culture, uniting "Pop strategies and influences" with the art of the past. A bridge between the ancient and the contemporary. In these works, I rework mythological, religious, and historical themes, almost always centered on female…
figures. At the center of this composition is a powerfully seductive female figure. Her languid expression seems to accentuate the charge of pathos, her enchanting and gentle face, with pale, candid skin. Her gaze is directed off-stage, conveying a sense of penitence and atonement. My goal is to connect references drawn from mass culture with references inspired by art history, to propose new meanings for the viewer. Last piece on sale.

Ezio Ranaldi, is an artist born in Canosa di Puglia, in the Province of Bari, on May 23, 1948, where he lives and works. He has held many solo and group exhibitions in various cities, including Tarquinia, at the Etruscopolis Museum, in Ferrara at the Estense Castle, in Cannes in France, in Norwich in Great Britain, in Paris, in Bari, and in many other Italian locations. He has participated in various International Biennials including Rome, Florence, Ferrara, Lecce, Verona. Present in various Modern and Contemporary Art Fairs, including Padova Arte, ExpoArte in Bari, Artisti in Mostra in Parma, Artexpo in New York, Arte Salerno. Numerous prizes and awards. His works appear in public and private collections, as well as being published several times in catalogs and contemporary art magazines. Valuable critics have expressed themselves regarding his work.
