About this artwork
The Doge's Palace and the "Schiavoni" bank which unfurls its facades and churches towards the gardens of the Castello district, shimmering in the vaporous air of the lagoon.
The sun is scorching and the Piazzetta is deserted by walkers who take refuge in the red shadows of the arcades.
The colors do the same and only golden yellows or warm oranges still cling to the window openings, the ceiling beams or in the gondolas moored along the quays.
… This painting is a diptych composed of a large panel 80cm high by 59cm wide and a small panel 80cm high by 11cm wide, the spacing between the panels on the images is 3cm.
Dry pastel on reconstituted wood panel
Temporary protection base and plexiglass, hanging ring

« My first artist's workshop was outdoors, on the beach and in sandcastles, at that age when everything is allowed and when one can work freely on shapes or colors. »
François Cusson is an experienced artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in Austria. For him, there are a few extraordinary days throughout each year, "when the air is so pure, so crisp that everything is transformed: the contours are sharper, the colors more subtle, the world is brighter and more luminous". Such days inspire Cusson to capture those magic and fleeting moments.
