About this artwork
It is the tragic color: it is the boiling blood, the battlefield of war, it is the flag brandished in the fists of the wretched of the Earth, by those who no longer want to walk bent. It is also the color of shame, when it rises to the face, or of anger when it clouds the gaze.
But it is also the deep ruby of wine, the purple of the great men of the Church.
It is said that it was the blood of Christ that stained the bird's throat.
Who had landed… on his shoulder.
It is the color of happiness across the oceans, in the vastness of Asia, where brides wear it as a token of happiness, and where babies are dressed in it to bring them luck. It is the cape of the bullfighter that hides the sharp sword beneath its swirls, it is the color of prohibition, of alert, the one that cries "attention!"
