About this artwork
This work is named after William Shakespeare's drama about Romeo and Juliet, in which the artist painterly expresses the passionate love of the protagonists who try to defy the circumstances. Symbolically, the flowers are carried as if on a dark, dramatic wave that threatens to break at any moment and yet they strive towards the light background. Due to its composition, this work is an eye-catcher with a light and yet at the same time dramatic image… statement. Romeo and Juliet has become the epitome of romantic love, the artist asked herself how these feelings and the story could be portrayed in a pictorial and symbolic way, and this work invites you to look at the artistic implementation.
« There is something special about beautiful art, it makes our hearts so light and bold. »
Françoise Wattré paints intuitively. The artist, who is based in Germany, also conveys moods and symbols, as pertaining to emotions. Wattré describes her art as honoring the beauty of life and wants to remind viewers of how precious it is. Although her compositions feature a varied color palette, the image of the flowers is almost always present. Her distinctive pieces are created using acrylics and pigments on canvas or linen.
