In this work, the desert becomes a metaphor for the mind: a suspended, almost liquid space, where forms crumble and recompose into unstable visions. The man, reduced to a bare outline, advances alongside two camels with uncertain silhouettes, which seem like broken reflections on a flickering surface.
The mirage is not merely a perceptual deception: it is the image of mental illusions, beliefs, and ideologies that insinuate themselves into consciousness,… distorting the way we interpret reality. The elongated and unstable figures evoke the fragility of these constructions, destined to dissolve like shadows in the desert light.
The camel, with its age-old resilience, becomes a symbol of an inner guide capable of breaking through the barriers of prejudice and rigid belief. Only by relying on this patient strength can one overcome the labyrinth of illusions and continue on the journey.
Francesco Pellerano, painter, draftsman, printmaker, and digital artist, trained at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts and enriched his sensibility with his experience in restoration. His research oscillates between lyrical abstraction and evocative figuration, with visionary landscapes constructed through layered materials, contrasts, and acrylic washes that convey a sense of poetic instability. His works are imbued with nostalgia and desire, inviting the viewer to explore the subtle boundary between reality and mirage and immerse themselves in suspended emotions and introspection.
