About this artwork
The work was created shortly after the outbreak of Corona in northern Germany. It shows in an ironic way the results of a policy of "lock down" and the isolation associated with it. This came completely unexpectedly for all those affected in the spring of 2020 and led to situations of involuntary isolation that had rarely been experienced before. The monochrome palette highlights the feeling of unity and separation at the same time. This picture… is a reflection on human closeness and distance. The whole world was affected by similar experiences during the years of the pandemic.
Günther Baechler, an art teacher, painter and peace diplomat, works with natural materials such as sand, stones and wood. He applies a bird's eye view, which gives his semi-abstract works an unusual appearance and sets them apart from typical landscape paintings. The focus on earth colours and textures presented in large-scale works suggests environmental changes. His artworks, which process his experiences in conflict areas, convey intense emotions and invite reflection, projecting the viewer onto the depths of the human experience.
