About this artwork
The Woven Land is a meditation on emotion, connection, and the textures that bind our inner and outer worlds. Every sculpted stroke interlaces colour and feeling, creating a landscape that is both physical and psychological. The vivid palette is intentionally bold — meant to stir emotion, whether love or aversion, but never indifference.
The artwork is inspired by sunlight falling on the Scottish Highlands during Autumn.
Part of the Soliloquy… series, this work speaks in quiet layers — where rhythm becomes reflection, and colour becomes a language of its own. It invites the viewer to journey inward, tracing the woven contours of thought, memory, and meaning.
It’s the first large painting in two years (since my son was born) and I was in a mad rush to finish as I couldn’t sleep well without seeing through its completion. Intense was the effort, almost 50 hours over a few days. Lots of standing, bending and twisting.
Gaya Chandrasekaran, an award-winning London-based artist from Chennai, masterfully crafts textured pieces with acrylics, gold leaf, and gel mediums. Her vivid landscapes blur abstraction and reality, teeming with expressive colors, physical textures, and lyrical movements that elicit emotional depth. She captures transformative moments, combining serenity, awe, and nostalgia in each painting, creating a mirror for the viewer to reflect their own experiences.
