Tryst depicts a solitary boat resting in a lotus-filled pond, a quiet meeting suspended in stillness.
Viewed from above, the flattened perspective allows cobalt waters and sculpted emerald leaves to pattern the surface in rhythmic harmony.
The saturated palette and simplified forms subtly echo the visual language of Henri Matisse, where colour becomes emotion and nature turns decorative yet alive.
Unlike modernist cut-outs, however, this work… is built through thick impasto. Each lotus leaf is carved with a palette knife; each current layered with deliberate gesture. The boat, rendered in warm ochres and golds, anchors the composition as a steady presence within immersion.
