About this artwork
The idea of this painting has been living in me for many years since my first trip to Marrakech. There at the local vegetable market, beautiful and stunning, like everything in Morocco, I could not take my eyes off the piles of vegetables. A huge mountain of onions was dripping to the ground, and right there in old boxes in the dust other vegetables were waiting for buyers.
This artwork is a vivid exploration of color and form, where I've melded… geometric precision with the fluidity of impressionism using oil paints. The scene captures a moment of abundance and overflow in a market, symbolizing both bounty and excess. Its rich textures and contrasting colors evoke a sense of life’s vibrancy and the transient beauty of everyday moments. Displaying this painting at home will infuse the space with energy and a reminder to appreciate the abundance that life offers. The mixture of color and black and white areas gives the painting a sense of unreality and etherealness.
