Brushed Chromaluxe without white print. You see the effect of the metal under a light source in the second image. Framed in an alu shadow box frame with hanging system.
In this digital series, I explore the quiet tension between geometry and nature—between the constructed and the organic. The landscapes serve as both canvas and witness, bearing the imprint of abstract shapes that feel at once… alien and eerily familiar. These forms are stripped of their original function, reduced to echoes of human presence—symbols of intervention, memory, and disappearance.
By placing these shapes within natural environments, I invite viewers to question what remains after we pass through a space. Are these remnants of architecture, ritual, or simply forgotten design? The work resists easy interpretation, instead offering a meditation on absence, erosion, and the fragile permanence of our marks on the world.
Gerda Van Damme's emotionally charged works—often in monochrome—have earned her finalist spots in prestigious competitions such as the Arte Laguna Prize (Venice), the Biennale Pierre Paulus, and the Prix des Arts Plastiques et Visuels du Waux-hall (Audience Award). Exhibiting across Europe and the US, including Berlin, Brooklyn, Ostend, and the Arsenale of Venice, she blends cinematic storytelling with existential inquiry. Van Damme’s practice is supported by multiple grants from cultural institutions in Belgium, affirming her role as a vital voice in visual arts.
