About this artwork
This painting was made during a residency in Sigriswil, a small village in Switzerland. I was deeply impressed by the colors of the trees in autumn: the intense yellows and oranges, colors we do not experience in the same way in Brazil, where the seasons are not as distinctly marked.
Traveling extensively and observing the movement and colors of the trees from the train left a deep impression on me. Because of that, something shifted in my work… process. Instead of using photographs as references for painting, during this residency, I began making videos and using them as a references for my works.
If we consider the permanence of color on our retina, it moves faster than our eyes can sustain, so we don't get to distinguish the limits of the bodies. This alone already creates a painting. It's a way of seeing the world as a painting.
This aligns with my ongoing research, which is that how painting is a product of the entire body.
Giulia Bianchi is a painter, sculptor, and visual artist whose background blends rigorous academic training in São Paulo with international residencies in Paris and Switzerland. She primarily uses oil paint, oil stick, and dry pastel, drawing from Post-Impressionism and American Abstract Expressionism, shifting fluidly between figuration and abstraction. Her technique weaves texture and density into forms that suggest organic relationships, dissolving boundaries between subject and environment. Her art evokes a deep sensory connection to nature, inviting viewers to experience a perception that transcends mere representation and taps into the intuitive and the emotive.
