About this artwork
This painting originates from a residency I did in Switzerland, in a village called Sigriswil. Arriving in autumn, I was deeply struck by the light of the season—the intense yellows, reds, and shifting colors of the trees, something we don’t experience in the same way in Brazil, where the seasons are less defined.
During that time, I was constantly traveling by train, watching the landscape unfold in motion. Instead of working from still photographs,… I began using videos as references, trying to capture not a fixed image, but a moving atmosphere.
This painting is less about representing a specific landscape and more about evoking the sensation of being there—the quality of the light, the movement, the air. There is also a synesthetic dimension to the work: I am interested in suggesting the feeling of the wind, the sound of a nearby stream, without directly depicting them.
Giulia Bianchi is a painter, sculptor, and visual artist whose background blends rigorous academic training in São Paulo with international residencies in Paris and Switzerland. She primarily uses oil paint, oil stick, and dry pastel, drawing from Post-Impressionism and American Abstract Expressionism, shifting fluidly between figuration and abstraction. Her technique weaves texture and density into forms that suggest organic relationships, dissolving boundaries between subject and environment. Her art evokes a deep sensory connection to nature, inviting viewers to experience a perception that transcends mere representation and taps into the intuitive and the emotive.
