About this artwork
An expressive, gestural painting of an open oyster, seen up close and occupying almost the entire composition. The form is organic and slightly abstract, with dissolved contours and edges that blend into the background. At the center, the oyster’s flesh appears in soft, luminous tones—pinks, pearlescent hues, lilacs, and creams; contrasting with the darker, earthier rim of the shell in deep browns, greens, and touches of blue.
The brushstrokes are… loose, thick, and visible, creating a continuous, tactile vibration. Light seems to emerge from within the oyster itself, suggesting a moist, almost translucent glow.
The image aim for a sensory experience: the oyster as a field of color, matter, and luminosity. An intimate, organic, and nearly abstract atmosphere, with influences from Impressionist and Expressionist painting, focusing on texture, gesture, and the fusion between figure and background.
Giulia Bianchi is a painter, sculptor, and visual artist whose background blends rigorous academic training in São Paulo with international residencies in Paris and Switzerland. She primarily uses oil paint, oil stick, and dry pastel, drawing from Post-Impressionism and American Abstract Expressionism, shifting fluidly between figuration and abstraction. Her technique weaves texture and density into forms that suggest organic relationships, dissolving boundaries between subject and environment. Her art evokes a deep sensory connection to nature, inviting viewers to experience a perception that transcends mere representation and taps into the intuitive and the emotive.
