About this artwork
Between Two Breaths
This selection explores the paradox between vital energy and contemplative stillness. The collection plays on contrasts of visual rhythms: acrylics with broad, rapid strokes, where splashes and drips simulate speed, are juxtaposed with oil paintings on canvas with smooth, serene surfaces, worked in subtle gradations to evoke absolute calm. The… curation also highlights works on paper, where the nervous energy of the ink line interacts with the emptiness of the support, creating a tension between action and repose. Between abstract compositions that vibrate with energy and minimalist scenes frozen in time, each piece uses the texture of the material—from the relief of impasto to the lightness of washes—to capture this fragile balance where movement ultimately fades into silence.

Gregory Christeas, born in Athens, Greece, in 1944, discovered his passion for abstract art early, guided by his mother’s nurturing influence. Over decades, he has built an illustrious career marked by numerous exhibitions, including the Cultural Olympiad Athens 2004—where the Ministry of Progress and the National Department of Tourism presented 125 of his works. His painting Parallel captures the essence of the Aegean Sea, translating childhood memories into waves of form and color. Each stroke reflects fluidity, emotion, and introspection, inviting viewers into a meditative journey. Deeply connected to nature, Christeas channels the rhythm of sea and sky, revealing harmony within chaos. Humble and contemplative, he allows his art to speak in silence—an invitation to pause and find beauty in the present. As Gregory Christeas continues to paint, his brushstrokes become whispers of wisdom, his colors fragments of dreams.
