About this artwork
Red on the Wall was featured in my show “Art and Freedom” at the Cultural Olympiad in Athens in 2004. I created this piece using industrial oils on canvas.
This artwork was inspired by, and made in memory of, the Greek Freedom Fighters executed by the Nazis in Athens during World War II. It specifically visualizes the wall in Kaisariani, where the mass execution known as “The 200 of Kaisariani” took place on May 1, 1944, carried out as a reprisal… for the killing of a German general by Greek Resistance forces.
