About this artwork
This work demonstrates my experimentation with material combinations and spatial depth. The diagonal white lines evoke sunlight refracting on the water's surface—the gentle shimmer of a swimming pool on a hot summer day. The two blue wooden strips on the left side act as a solid pool edge, creating a sense of order and boundary. The yellow circles, reminiscent of swimming rings, float playfully on the structured lines, a contrast between severity… and lightness.
Yet the work deliberately breaks with the clarity of this composition: a black line pierces the entire canvas; it is not just painted, but actually pierced. This element of destruction and penetration represents the breaking down of boundaries, the courage to experiment, and the conscious questioning of classical pictorial structures. It is a statement for innovation, for the unpredictable in art.
Guoqiang Wu, an honors graduate of a German art school, works primarily with acrylic paints and emphasizes geometry and contrasts. His minimal, reduced style is combined with dynamic lines and varying textures, occasionally employing unusual materials. His artworks reflect his inner emotional worlds, often interspersed with themes of identity, memory, and personal loneliness.
