About this artwork
This work belongs to my early creative phase and is part of a series in which I work with only five colors. The combination of traditional painting techniques and real yarn on canvas creates a unique three-dimensional effect. The white yarn lines overlay the composition and break up the color planes—they give the painting structure and an almost sculptural character.
Each color represents its own form of expression: black represents contrast and… stability, red represents energy, yellow represents light, blue represents depth, and white represents a limiting yet unifying force. The irregular, gestural brushstrokes and splashes of paint underscore the experimental approach of this work. It is an attempt to combine color, form, and material into a new language—raw, direct, and honest.
Guoqiang Wu, an honors graduate of a German art school, works primarily with acrylic paints and emphasizes geometry and contrasts. His minimal, reduced style is combined with dynamic lines and varying textures, occasionally employing unusual materials. His artworks reflect his inner emotional worlds, often interspersed with themes of identity, memory, and personal loneliness.
