About this artwork
Shearling is a ceramic sculpture exploring the tension between warmth and structure, softness and rigidity. The coat, with faux shearling trim around the collar, pockets, and edges, represents a protective layer - yet without a body, it becomes a symbol of the wrapping itself.
The contrast between the textured wool-like trim and the rigid ceramic highlights the gap between physical and symbolic warmth. The coat, seemingly waiting for its wearer,… holds its form despite the absence of a body.
As in my other works, the missing human figure invites interpretation. Is this a remnant of a garment without its wearer? A testament to warmth found in material rather than the body? Or a shell that protects as much as it conceals? “Shearling” explores memory, material, and the meaning woven into clothing.

Bringing a background in graphic design and a passion for clay, Guy Hivroni produces ceramic works in Jerusalem that encapsulate his dedication to creation. His sculptures, shaped through wheel throwing and meticulous hand-building, embody a unique dynamism, enthusing life and story into the form of garments. The emotion within his pieces arises from the realization of the paradoxical presence in absence; suggesting an intimate human narrative beckoning for reflection and personalized interpretation, through the tangible representation of clothing.
