About this artwork
When I stood before the canvas, I didn't want to paint a face, but rather a mood that felt electric and real. I chose that solid, vibrant green background to act as a wall against which all the portrait's energy would crash. I didn't aim for realistic skin tones because skin doesn't always reflect what's inside, so I preferred to use those brushstrokes of lavender and orange to sculpt the features with pure paint. because I needed the paint to have its own texture and for the trace of my hand to be visible in every movement. I left the eyes that fiery red so they would be the center of everything, like two burning embers that compel the viewer to wonder what's going through this character's mind. I worked the hair with nervous strokes of yellow and black to give it that final touch of rebellion and dynamism that completes the entire composition.
