About this artwork
The painting "Landscape with Road near Nerja" belongs to the "Shadows" series and is the first in the series. The idea originated during a stay on the Andalusian coast. After the rain, the pine trees had fresh, bright green shoots. This color, together with the intense light and the shadows under the trees, as well as the winding road and its shadow-casting wooden border, inspired me to create this painting.
Besides the composition, the color was… important to me, especially the contrast between dark shadows and the bright yellow-green of the pine trees/the sunlit street.
I first made sketches in my studio in Andalusia. Back home in my studio, I translated these sketches and the photographic material into the 120 x 160 cm format.
