About this artwork
I had the opportunity to visit Ireland with my family and it truly was a trip of a lifetime. Not only did I decide to go on this adventure a week before the trip, but my parents decided only the day prior. On this adventure through Ireland we managed to fit 14 people and 28 bags into two cars, a feat that deserves to be highlighted, especially because it is the back story to the creation of this drawing. On our last adventure we had the opportunity… of staying on this beautiful serene farm where the landscape felt straight out of a fairytale. The other fun aspect of these horses were that they came right up to me and greeted me with such warmth. Drawing this took me back to such calm and peaceful moments and I am so glad I could depict them using colored pencils. This drawing is the perfect window to take you right into the Irish countryside, while hanging in your home.
A graduate of West Virginia University, Maria Deely masterfully employs color pencils to create stunning photorealistic drawings. Her style encapsulates an appreciation of the world around her, reflecting intimate, immersive experiences of different cultures and landscapes. Deely's pieces convey a profound sense of stillness, urging viewers to bask in the evoked warmth, beauty and intricate diversity of our world despite her battle with chronic illness.
