About this artwork
The Reichstag, with its iconic dome, presents itself at its best. The party capital is once again giving it its all. Crowds are coming. They're even dancing to the music from their boom boxes. But the flags are at half-mast. Attack helicopters and squadrons of aircraft are already approaching menacingly in the sky.
Abstracted through various stylistic devices and painting techniques, they appear to us as if from a distant future. The artificially… created distance allows for a more objective view of our own present and current living conditions.
"Half-Mast" is a transferred photographic composition on filler paste, held to the canvas. Pigments, craquelure, and patina are fixed with a mineral binder. The glossy surface of the painting lends depth and elegance. Mica glitters when viewed from the side.
