This idea arose from the fire of Notre Dame in Paris. The design carved into this figure is the North Rose Window from the inside (on the chest) and the window from the outside (on her back) of Notre Dame. The windows represent windows to the soul, what is left when all has fallen to ash. The bird in her hand represents what is possible in freedom from attachments.
