About this artwork
A mask, half protection, half threat, gazes out at us. It is not the mask of carnival, not the smile of concealment. It is the mask of a world in upheaval: cracked, marked by fire, crisscrossed by shadows. One senses in it the heat of crises, the rumbling beneath the surface. Yet at the same time, in its bright fragments, it contains a germ of… the new, a white that refuses to be consumed by the flames.
Which faces do we reveal? Which do we hide? And how long can we withstand the cracks before we, too, transform?
It is the mask of modern society that radiates strength and control while being fragile inside.
I also painted this picture on a printed canvas of one of my “old” pictures.
