About this artwork
As I paint, I watch the sunrise spill warm, honeyed light across the bursts of hydrangea before me, and I feel a quiet urgency to capture their fragile beauty. My brush moves in swirling, instinctive strokes, pulling soft oranges and peach-gold tones into the petals, each one a reminder of how much there is to protect. The thick, textured oil paint catches the light, making every bloom shimmer as if breathing — alive, delicate, and vulnerable.
With… each stroke, I’m reminded of how easily scenes like this could fade without care for the world that shapes them. The hydrangeas feel like a testament to the importance of conservation: the need to preserve the landscapes that cradle moments like this dawn. Hints of lavender and cool blue slip beneath the warmth, grounding the composition and echoing the balance nature keeps when left undisturbed.
As the canvas fills, I’m not just painting flowers in sunrise — I’m painting a quiet plea to safeguard the beauty that still remains.
*International Artist *Awarded *Highly Qualified *Experienced Lecturer *Blue Chip Irene Watson, a Scottish artist trained in painting, drawing, and printmaking, is deeply rooted in both studio practice and public engagement. Her conceptual abstraction ranges from allegorical oil works, often on canvas or linen, to cross-disciplinary series inspired by modernist and feminist influences. She constructs layered surfaces through bold gestures and embraces fluid, unpredictable processes, creating a dynamic play between balance and discord. Her evocative works draw viewers in with beauty and tension, ultimately conveying profound connections to human vulnerability, environmental fragility, and the emotional resonance of lived experience.
