About this artwork
In this tryptich, I describe with poetry and paint the journey of a couple who have parted ways then come together again many years later to talk about where they went wrong. Through the benefit of age and time passed, the two realise the difficulties they faced together and how they still care deeply for each other. Through layers of oil, wax, and sand, blending graffiti’s boldness with abstract fluidity, text and imagery describe in an allegorical… manner, the love that exists beyond pain . The chaotic colors and text fragments invite you into an intense, almost comic-like story of inner turmoil and resilience. It radiates energy and movement, promising to spark deep reflection and conversation in your space, connecting you to the complex beauty of human experience.

Irene Watson, a Scottish artist trained in painting, drawing, and printmaking, is deeply rooted in both studio practice and public engagement. Her conceptual abstraction ranges from allegorical oil works, often on canvas or linen, to cross-disciplinary series inspired by modernist and feminist influences. She constructs layered surfaces through bold gestures and embraces fluid, unpredictable processes, creating a dynamic play between balance and discord. Her evocative works draw viewers in with beauty and tension, ultimately conveying profound connections to human vulnerability, environmental fragility, and the emotional resonance of lived experience.
