About this artwork
In "On the First Day" I follow the footsteps of the Upper Austrian composer Anton Bruckner in expressive wet-on-wet oil painting on canvas, in an elegant portrait format of 100 x 50 cm. The paradisiacal nature rises out of the darkness through the light.
catalogue raisonné number 458
In 1879, Anton Bruckner climbed the Austrian castle Altpernstein, which is located 900 m above sea level - partly carried by friends. Bruckner began composing his… 9th Symphony in 1887, which he said he dedicated to "the good Lord." In my series of paintings "Bruckner's Ninth" I draw inspiration from the three movements of the unfinished symphony and from long hikes to the mountain of Altpernstein Castle, the "Hirschwaldstein."
Isabella Scharf-Minichmair works in oil and acrylic, inspired by her studio in the 1000-year-old Austrian castle Altpernstein. Historical contexts, fairy tales, myths and different pictorial traditions, as well as musical forms, are typical components of the painterly search for traces in an expressive style. Intuitive body lines and a deliberate choice of color create organically guided structures that reveal deep emotional layers and act as a journey through time and space.
