About this artwork
The empty throne is inspired by the Upper Austrian mountains around Altpernstein Castle and by the story of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum. Under the leadership of the Noricians, 13 Celtic tribes joined together in 200 BC to form the Kingdom of Noricum. The Regnum Noricum is thus the first known political entity in the area of present-day Austria. During my extensive hikes to the local mountain of Altpernstein Castle, the "Hirschwaldstein", or the… "Georgenberg", which once housed a Celtic flying castle, a Roman watchtower and a burial ground, I repeatedly come across strange stone structures that strongly inspire the artistic search for traces. Neolithic finds from the "Humsenbauernkogel", scattered Bronze Age finds and excavation results from the Carolingian burial ground in Kremsdorf suggest a settlement continuum of more than 4000 years. Isabella Scharf-Minichmair works in oil and acrylic, inspired by her studio in the 1000-year-old Austrian castle Altpernstein. Historical contexts, fairy tales, myths and different pictorial traditions, as well as musical forms, are typical components of the painterly search for traces in an expressive style. Intuitive body lines and a deliberate choice of color create organically guided structures that reveal deep emotional layers and act as a journey through time and space.
