About this artwork
The Fastnet is a legendary lighthouse in the English Channel, south of England. Every year, prestigious races use it as a buoy, and it is a very tricky passage to negotiate. The greatest sailors tackle it. In 1979, during the Admiral's Cup, a violent storm caused many capsizes, some of which were fatal. The weather is often windy and unpredictable, and the sea rough.
It is to pay tribute to these valiant sailors that Jean-Claude Pallier represented… the Pen Duick VI in heavy weather, doubling the well-known silhouette of the Fastnet.
The Pen Duick VI is a legendary sailboat, skippered by Eric Tabarly, who took part in the Whitbread in 1973, and who won the English transatlantic race solo in 1976. Jean-Claude had the chance to steer this legendary sailboat for a few hours, which has sailed all the oceans of the globe; he has kept strong impressions of it, which he invites you to share in this canvas.
« The alchemy of the light of the sky and water, the infinite variety of their combined reflections are the basis of the emotions that I invite you to share. »
Jean-Claude Pallier is an experienced artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. Inspired by the sea in all its forms, he is equally as fascinated by ships, the light of coastal landscapes, and the atmospheres of ports, which is translated through his works. Pallier creates in a realistic and figurative style, favoring acrylics on linen.
