With this sculpture, I wanted to express the prevailing sentiment regarding justice today. Indeed, Themis, goddess of justice, is the daughter of Gaia (the earth) and Uranus (the sky). She is also Zeus's second wife and advisor. She is usually depicted blindfolded, brandishing a sword and scales as her attributes. The sword represents the sentence to be handed down and the punishment; the scales represent contradiction; and the veil over her eyes… represents impartiality. Sometimes a knee is bare or visible, expressing magnanimity. My representation depicts her with the sword hidden within her tunic, making it difficult to extract, and the scales with cracked pans evoke judicial flaws.

Jean Gabriel Mondié, a self-taught sculptor initially trained in painting and painting restoration at Drouot, draws his inspiration from classical tradition and anatomical power, using primarily bronze. He combines the rigor of neoclassicism with the audacity of Mannerism, not hesitating to deconstruct the material to emphasize aesthetic intensity. Through his works, he questions mythological and human metaphor, seeking to move, to bear witness, and to sublimate the ideal of beauty in a deeply expressive and poetic impulse.
