About this artwork
Tongue and red lips are the symbol of the group.
It was John Pasche, a simple student at the Royal College of the Arts in London, who designed it in 1970. The group's manager had indeed asked this school to select a student to offer logos to Mick Jagger. And it was this student who won the competition, drawing inspiration for his logo from the singer's lips.
He later explained that his goal was to create a simple logo that expressed the rebellious… spirit and sexuality of the Stones.
Which therefore symbolizes anti-authoritarianism with a sexual connotation, and also which resists the imprint of time.
