About this artwork
KILL YOUR DARLINGS is a printmaking series that evokes the
previous series of »Pitchblende« and »Don't call me
Baby« continues.
This new work will revisit the themes of the earlier series.
taken up and supplemented with additional self-portraits and found objects
Images added. Thematically, it focuses on the area of queer issues.
Eroticism, fetish, obsession and desire are further explored and addressed.
once again the interplay between self-image… and external image.
In doing so, I am resorting to a technique I used frequently in the past.
linocut technique, but applied in a new form:
as a colored embossed print on thick laid paper. It is merely
a layer embossed into the paper in a gentle color gradient.
Nevertheless, the forms and elements intertwine in an ornamental way,
overlapping layers with each other, resulting in denser layers.
and leads to almost dissolving compositions.

Jens Schubert works primarily with printmaking, especially linocut, and occasionally with painting and drawing, and completed her studies at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. Her works are characterized by strong colors and complex layering, and move between figurative-symbolist representation and abstract dissolution of form. She engages intensively with archetypes, symbols, and their transformation, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in an emotional interplay between beauty, confusion, intimacy, and contradictory associations.
